Doing Social Media Right

Earlier today I came across some good information about social media I thought I’d share with my readers.  The first was a presentation I found on slideshare on social media which I embedded below:

The next was a post I came across was by internet marketing guru Seth Godin.  It was very short, but pro-found, so I decided to post it below:

The reason social media is so difficult for most organizations

It’s a process, not an event.

Dating is a process. So is losing weight, being a public company and building a brand.

On the other hand, putting up a trade show booth is an event. So are going public and having surgery.

Events are easier to manage, pay for and get excited about. Processes build results for the long haul.

I hope you guys found this info beneficial,
David

Would the music marketing company give you parameters of high and low charges? Could the question be asked; What do you feel is a fair range for this service? After all, I do not want to price myself out of a client.

Incorporating social media into your small business marketing efforts relies on multichannel syndication. You must be extremely proficient at rapidly repurposing and releveraging content for massive exposure. Most people spend a great deal of time creating content, but then fail to spend the time promoting their content.

You have 140 characters. Be short and link back to more information on your website or blog. By linking back to your website you create traffic and allow your site to be indexed by search engines. Both are good.

Best Social Media books: New Rules of Marketing & PR by David Meerman Scott. Trust Agents by Chris Brogan. Guide to Social Media marketing by Paul Gillon. Any Seth Godin books are good as well.

Tips to show you know social media in an interview…If you’re able to direct your employer to your blog, twitter or other social sites that show history and you are able to give specific examples of how you have helped yourself, previous businesses or clients…that will go a long way. It’s more about revealing your knowledge than trying to portray or “show” it.

I want to stress that social media is not all about the tools and technology….know how to use the tools and technology, but use them to improve your existing relationships and build new ones.

I hope all of you had a very good Christmas.

Social media sites depend on the FRESHNESS of the information, while search engine sites depend on the RELEVANCE of the site to the search query and that gives an edge to older pages.

You can find a firm to handle your social media for as little as $500 a month. However, what you might want to do is create an E-Marketing Plan. This would distill your company’s brand, set forth your objectives, and allow you to allocate resources in an organizeed and tactical way.

I recommend not solely revolving your campaign around these channels however. With a social media campaign, we’d target specific communities that cater to your specific demographic. If you’re selling luggage, for example, we’d heavily participate in travel-based social networks and forum communities.

There are tons of different social media places that you can use. Networking sites like Twitter and Facebook are two and then there are social bookmarking sites like Digg and Stumbleupon. Each of the different sites is going to be used differently.
